Vilma Santos was born and raised in Puerto Rico and currently resides in Long Island, New York. Ms. Santos has devoted her life to serving the community. She has an extensive background in social services and in addressing the various socio-economic needs of the underserved. During her career, Ms. Santos has worked with children with AIDS and she has also worked as a crisis counselor in numerous Latino organizations. In addition, to working with those in need, Vilma Santos is also dedicated to volunteering her services to the community. She is a member of various community committees and is currently the leader of the New York Chapter of the Islaminspanish Organization. Due to her years of service and leadership, Vilma Santos has received several awards, including but not limited to, the Humanity Award and most recently, the Impact Women Award given by the United Nations. Ms. Santos once stated, “I am very fortunate to be part of the Somos, Inc. Board of Directors for the past 4 years where I have had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people.”
