Santos Rodriguez

Santos Rodriguez is the Director of Community Affairs & Strategic Initiatives for the Building & Construction Trades Council of Greater New York (BCTC). In this role, he is responsible for engaging with community groups, organizations, and other stakeholders. His responsibilities also include communication with BCTC affiliates to implement strategic initiatives and assist with all BCTC lobbying efforts.

Prior to joining the BCTC, Mr. Rodriguez worked as an apprentice and then journeyman of the International Association of Heat & Frost Insulators and Allied Workers Local #12. During his tenure at Local #12, Mr. Rodriguez served in several capacities including Organizer and Political Director. Mr. Rodriguez is the youngest person to be appointed as a full-time officer of Local #12. In these roles, he was responsible for organizing workers and promoting opportunities for union and non-union workers to work in a safe environment that provides fair wages, benefits, and representation.

Mr. Rodriguez is a graduate of Project Pathways, later renamed The Edward J. Malloy Initiative for Construction Skills, an apprenticeship preparation program that provides New York City public high school students and other residents the opportunity to enter apprenticeship programs jointly sponsored by BCTC affiliates. He continues his involvement with Construction Skills and currently serves as the organization’s Community Liaison.

Mr. Rodriguez also serves as a board member of several organizations including Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens, Government Affairs Professionals (GAP), Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA), Workforce Development Institute (WDI) and SOMOS Inc (Somos New York).  Mr. Rodriguez’s work has been recognized by elected officials, community and labor organizations for his work supporting a strong middle class.

Mr. Rodriguez is married and has two wonderful children.
